The long story short
My name is Rebecca Thompson and I am currently a fifth year student at the University of Guelph. I am finishing up my degree in international development with plans to pursue my passion for journalism upon graduation.
I grew up in Vancouver, BC, and moved to Ontario for university. I have travelled and lived in many different places in the world from the Canadian prairies to Ghana, Africa.
Through my adventures, my passion has always fallen back to the same subject; sport.
I can say without a doubt that sports have always been a huge part of my life, and they have shaped me into the person I am today. I have played soccer since I was five years old, high-level field hockey throughout my life, and now my focus is on Ultimate Frisbee and competing at the U24 World Championships for Team Canada in 2018.
Sport is my main area of focus but I have many other interests as well. Issues surrounding gender and politics, international conflict and investigative journalism are some of my key interests.
I am very driven, organized and enthusiastic. I want to tell stories, cover events, and be a part of the ever-evolving industry of journalism.
